In the U.S., dementia affects over 6 million people, and this number is projected to double by 2060 due to the aging population. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia, accounting for 60-80% of cases. The lifetime risk of developing dementia is 42% for those over 55, with women having a slightly higher risk than men. Dementia is more prevalent in older age groups, with rates increasing significantly after 85.
